Last month, I had the privilege of helping place the flags for the 9/11 memorial at SLHS, and I want to thank those who have been leading this effort for years and the family who first started the tradition. It was a somber morning of remembrance for those lost in an act of extreme terrorism, especially felt against the backdrop of ongoing gun violence in America. Still, a great conversation with a colleague and the support of passersby honking or shouting “Thanks!” helped lift my spirits.

In the weeks that followed, both the Coopersburg and Lower Milford Community Day celebrations were in full swing! At each event, I met incredible people and shared moments of joy and connection. Thank you to @CoopersburgCommunityDay for the opportunity to volunteer. I can’t wait to continue that tradition! One of my happiest moments that weekend was visiting my 8-year-old son while he was working his shift with his pack. ❤️ My wife and I were so proud of him, and we were impressed by the teamwork and dedication of all the kids involved.

At Lower Milford Community Day, I even had the chance to take the guitar out for a walk and play some impromptu tunes for a few folks before heading out. I also had a meaningful conversation with someone from a church booth about the joy (and challenge) of making time for music. Another highlight was meeting a former school board member who served in the late 1980s. Hearing their perspective on how the board once focused squarely on problems at hand, working toward tangible solutions to improve the district, was inspiring and I believe feasible.

Community events like these remind us of the value of coming together. So much hard work goes into making sure every vendor, visitor, and participant feels welcome and cared for. That same spirit of effort, teamwork, and care is something we should strive to carry into our everyday lives. That is the same energy I want to bring to the board.
